Ranulph Fiennes is taking on an incredible Antarctica challenge later this year.
The British explorer is planning to trek across Antarctica in winter for charity with his explorer colleagues, in a feat that has never before been undertaken.
The challenge is unprecedented. The expedition often in
pitch darkness with temperatures plummeting to -80 C will take up all of 2013.
The endurance trek for charity has a CSR element to it
because Sir Ranulph is supporting the charity initiative Seeing is Believing, a
global fundraising effort to help tackle avoidable blindness. Seeing is
Believing is a partnership between Standard Chartered Bank and the International
Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).
The CSR charity initiative has a number of charity partners including SightsaversInternational, CBM, Helen Keller International (HKI).
All funds raised by Seeing is Believing are matched by
Standard Chartered Bank, doubling the impact of fundraisers and donors
who are supporting the scheme.
It’s a great example of CSR funding because it offers an
incentive to others to back the fundraising campaign, which offers tangible results
in terms of providing funds for simple treatments that restore eyesight
to some of the poorest people in the world - in countries like Cambodia, India
and Ghana.
Sir Ranulph’s Coldest Journey challenge hopes to raise USD 10
million for Seeing is Believing.
Sir Ranulph has said he was partly inspired to support
Seeing is Believing by his amazing experiences of the beautiful sights he has seen
on his adventures, and has been urging those who are following the mission to
donate to the CSR backed charity appeal.
