A charity that helps the travel and tourism industry become more
sustainable is offering hotels partnership opportunities that involve up to
£25,000 of match-funding.
The Travel Foundation is particularly interested in project
ideas focused on renewable energy technologies, including solar electricity and
water heating, hydroelectricity, rainwater harvesting, etc as well as other
sustainable innovations, like investments in electric vehicles. The plan is to develop a pilot project to demonstrate the effectiveness of implementing such technologies, and build a CSR case hopefully for a larger-scale roll out across the hotel’s chain.
The charity, that celebrates its 10th anniversary next year,
is developing a register of project concepts to draw on as funds become
available.
Businesses and organisations are invited to submit concept
notes for projects. The deadline for concept notes for future project ideas is November
12.
Salli Felton, of the Travel Foundation, says: “We think this
is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to
environmental improvement and to show the tourism industry that greener is
better...”
The charity is targeting large
hotel chains serving the UK outbound tourism market. Hotel chains that are
already implementing standard measures to reduce environmental impacts, and are
interested in moving up to the next level.
